Charcoal Sellers, around Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 2007-8
In many developing countries such as Cambodia, wood-charcoal, usually produced from primary forest, is the main fuel source.Unfortunately this is one of the main drivers of deforestation. Alternative fuels are usually expensive and imported. However, some progress is being made with the promotion of more efficient stoves and charcoal kilns, and the use of biogas from manures. These photos were taken as part of a residency at the MetaHouse, Phnom Penh, Cambodia (click on thumbnails for enlarged image).
